China Machinery Engineering Corporation (CMEC), an affiliate of Sinomach, and the Maldivian Government signed a framework agreement on cooperative construction of a national stadium in the Maldives on Nov 25 at the Maldives National Media Center. It marks a new breakthrough made by the company in the development of the Maldivian market.
The signing ceremony was witnessed by the Maldivian ministers of national planning, housing and infrastructure, sports and foreign affairs and Zhang Lizhong, Chinese Ambassador to the Maldives. Representatives from both sides also expressed their ardent expectations for bilateral cooperation on the project.
The project is a large-scale one initiated by the Maldivian government for the 11th Indian Ocean Island Games, a multi-sport event held every four years for athletes from island nations in the Indian Ocean. When completed, it will be a comprehensive sports facility meeting international standards and serving local residents. It is expected to become a new landmark building in the Maldives.
