Roof-topping for the first building of the phase III housing project (1,530 units) in the Maldives was conducted on June 18. The project was undertaken by China Machinery Engineering Corporation (CMEC), a subsidiary of Sinomach.

The Maldives had earlier declared a state of emergency due to the coronavirus outbreak. In that context the completion of the project’s first building is of great significance to shore up confidence in the market and also paves a way to the following resumption of work and production.

The housing project, which will deliver a total of 4,000 units, with a total floor area of over 360,000 square meters, is one of the major livelihood projects in the Maldives. Since 2009, the country’s housing projects undertaken by CMEC have largely alleviated local housing pressures. Moreover, they have also boosted the development of hundreds of stores and created a new integrated economic model for the local infrastructure, commerce and tourism industries.
